Seminar regarding Mission Schools in Ipoh, on 14/11/09

Educationist from all over Malaysia came together to discuss strategies thru' education of mission schools in Malaysia. This is a follow-up on the Conference of Christian Mission Schools that was held in 2009, officiated by the present YAB Prime Minister.

The Seminar was started by an introduction about the heartbeat of the founding fathers of mission schools in Malaysia by Bro. Vincent Corkery, a very dedicated La Sallian bro.

Bro Jordan Tang from Kluang suggested that Christian Fellowship, Boys' and Girls' Brigade could also be carried out plus engaging the community in the school operations.

Dr Lim Boon Hock, the Executive Director of Methodist Mission Schools, then outlined the rightful role and place of Mission Schools since the Aziz Commission. He encouraged the Christian community to take leadership roles in the Governing Boards in Mission Schools. He urged more teachers from today's generations should fill the mission schools.

In conclusion, he reminded all that reclaiming the mission schools is the role and responsibility of all Christians.

hi Christians were pioneers and leaders in education. The early missionaries came and set up schools and today many of us are beneficiaries of the sacrifices made by these ones.
Did you know that the first mission school to be set up was Penang Free School? It was started in 1816 by the Anglicans but has since been handed over to the government to administer.
We now have about 464 schools left down from over 800. What will happen to these schools?
Is there a future for our schools?
What changes would you like to see?
Make a list of the changes you would like to see and post it here
